Crime Scene Investigation Lab
The project we did was about the students being crime investigators, on a murder case. There were three different murder cases that students were assigned to. For the crime scenes we each had to do the following, Blood Typing, DNA Analysis, Forensic Entomology, Blood Spatter Projectile, Fingerprint Fuming, Shoe and Tire Print Casting, Toxicology Report, and Coroners Report. We also had to take pictures of the crime scene and analyze the statements of the suspects.
I have to say that this project was a lot of fun because you had to the work and you kind of got to do a little bit of everything whether you wanted to or not. I think that the best part of this project, for me, was reading the coroner’s report, and being very thorough with all of it and finding out the cause of death.
Community Connection
For my Community Connection, I volunteered regularly at Cadence Therapeutic Riding Center, were I helped handicapped people ride horses to with their motor skills. I learned that you can have the most fun with some of the most shyest people in the world through horses. It makes me feel proud of my self every single time I catch the horse and I am getting the horse ready for the rider, because I know that it is not only benefiting me, but them as well.
Dissection Lab
In the dissection lab we had to choose between a fetal pig, a cat, or a spiny dogfish shark. I chose the spiny dogfish shark, and we started with the external anatomy, and familiarizing with the anatomy. After we were done with the external anatomy we opened up the shark and familiarized with the internal anatomy. After I was completely familiarized with the shark inside and out, I had to take my final, which I passed.
Monkey Meal Planning
This project made me think about the diet of my self while we were learning about how certain foods can trigger certain reactions in your body. After we learned about how to be cautious with foods, we were assigned to make recipes that would benefit the primates' health.
Durango Nature Studies Habitat Assessment
For this project Animas High School went to Durango Nature Studies' property to give a habitat assessment of a small section of the 140 acre property. As a class we caught and identified the frog that live on the property, we also did a series of different fieldwork tests in groups or individually and I got to do the macro invertebrate catching in the river. When we were done doing the fieldwork we had to narrow our findings to be a accurate as possible, and that meant looking for each different species in each sample of the pond or river. We then put all of our findings on excel sheets in Microsoft Word and kept them there until we were done with our papers. When we were writing our technical papers I found it almost impossible to write in this very strict matter, and ended up trying and failing, I then realized that I was over thinking it and just needed to be specific and cant to refer to any subject in general, after that I found it so easy to write and it was actually really fun.
My finished paper is below.
