Model United Nations
Project Reflection:
This project was about finding a global issue and finding a way to make a solution to this issue, as every student was a different country.
We had to do our first issue on 'Should North Korea, as a Sovereign Nation, Have the Right to Make and Develop Nuclear Weapons.' Since I was the country India their perspective was a little different than my personal perspective, and so in the end I came up with a resolution that only reflected on India's view on that subject while also keeping in mind India's allies views too.
The Issue that we did our actual Model United Nations on was 'Should the Palestinians Have the Right to Return to Israel.' India's perspective on this subject was that they were a very neutral country and just want them to stop fighting, so with that in mind I came up with a resolution that kept both Israel and Palestine out of the final vote to keep this more unbiased.
1. If I were to give advice for a student who is beginning this project I would most likely say to be prepared for a lot of thorough detailed work, for stress and lots of it. I would also say that this may actually change a lot of your opinions on things that you only know one perspective on, because this teaches you how to be more exact with your facts.
2. Out of all of the Habits of Heart and Mind the one that I used and that I am most proud of would have to be advocacy because throughout this whole entire project I kept my countries perspective which was hard to do. When I was doing my speech I really made it clear that India would rather have fact over opinion.
3. If I were given the choice to start this project over I would probably gather up much more evidence than I had so I could back up everything I say with evidence. I would also like to have had a little bit more time to put together my speech with more guidelines so I wasn’t as confused.
4.For me personally I would like to say that Honduras’ (Marianne) speech was probably the best because she was stating fact after fact after fact and that takes a lot of time to almost every single countries perspectives and find something to say about that country.
