Visiting Park Elementary
Before visiting Park, I felt as if I could connect with the community with my Spanish by interpreting for those who don’t understand English. The hardest part about speaking Spanish is getting over the fear of messing up. Once you realize that messing up is okay, and that’s how you learn, you can talk fo’ dayzzzz. While I am in my little's classes I can ask my buddy what they are doing and how I can help them. My little can help me by showing me what they are doing and introducing me to their friends, so that we can have a deeper connection. I want to have a cool friend at the end of this project. To be honest I am apprehensive that my little will not be interested in anything we do together. I feel confident that I will have a great kid, that I can have a relationship with.
After visiting Park, I met my little whose name is Juan. Juan is such a cute, kind, and respectful kid. He didn’t fluently understand Spanish which was understandable, because neither do I. He was willing to try to understand Spanish, which was awesome! I think that the classes that I went to were overwhelmed with the kids that I work with at the Boys and Girls Club, and took some of the spotlight away from Juan. At recess I played wall ball and tag with Juan and his friends, I had a lot of fun playing with Juan. He is a cool kiddo who is on top of his work. I am going to encouraging my teacher to have us go back next semester so I can spend more time helping Juan in his classes.
