Why Spanish?
One reason that I want to learn Spanish is because half of my family speaks Spanish since they moved to America from Argentina, and I am a first generation American. My dad tried to teach me when I was little but I held no interest in it, and now I am regretting that interest. Now I would be at an advantage since I could go home and speak the language, but at a disadvantage because I’m not fluent yet. Knowing Spanish is not only special to me personally but professionally too because I would probably get more jobs and opportunities because of my soon to be bilingualism.
This project was about directing non-Spanish speakers in a Spanish speaking country. The skit that I performed was lodging, and I played the Front Desk of the hotel. I had to use lodging Vocab terms, like llave (key), cuarto (room), trescientos ocho (308), and the local term of companeros (Mr., Mrs.). Writing the skit, we had the original idea of having a Mermaid themed hotel, and changed to just a hotel were this family was trying to check in. For the skit I also had to memorize ten of my own lines for the exhibition.
This project impacted me positively because it improved my Spanish speaking ability, because I had to speak clearly in front of a crowd. Because of this skit I now know how to communicate with a hotel to get a room, and tell them that the room key does not work. I feel more confident with my Spanish due to this skit.
